Diabetes Educator

An “upskilling certification” course for the professionals with experience in the patient
care such as Nurses, Dieticians, Physician Assistants, Pharm D, Pharmacists,
Phlebotomists.

This course will provide the healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills
required to screen, diagnose and manage diabetes with the support of doctors.

• Diabetes Educator is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge
  of and experience in prediabetes, diabetes prevention, and management. Diabetes
  Educators will be an integral part of the diabetes management teams. Their role is to
  educate and support people affected by diabetes and help them manage the
  condition.
• Diabetes Educator promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral
  and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes.
• While diabetes educator may come from a variety of health professions, each member
  of the diabetic team is expected to integrate the role into their professional practice.

What is Covered?

This course will give brief knowledge on the below aspects

1. Burden of diabetes in India
2. Etiopathogenesis of various forms of diabetes
3. Screening and prevention of Diabetes.
4. Management of diabetes with doctor’s guidance.
5. Evaluation and management of complications of Diabetes

Five 2 hour (Total 10 hrs0 sessions online by Endocrinologists, Diabetes Educators & Dietitians
Group Sessions (up to 5)

Nurses, Dieticians, Physician Assistants, Pharm D, Pharmacists,
Phlebotomists.

Course Objectives

• Diabetes Educators form a bridge between the doctor and
  the patient ensuring continuity of care in between clinic
  visits.
• Health educators should also possess qualities like good communication Skills, Interpersonal skills, Writing skills and above all passion towards patient care in diabetes

Course Outcomes

• Diabetes Educators can be taking up the roles based on
  their skills which can include: Educating patient towards
  self management and monitoring of their diabetes, help
  with basic understanding about diabetes, diet and
  exercise, medications, tests and healthy living.
• Module one will be towards providing with the basic
  knowledge about Diabetes management with support
  from Doctors in between their clinic visits.

• Online education modules in English over 5 sessions with a competency test.
• Total training duration of over 10 hours in 5 sessions.
